If the foot-operated liftgate on your Nissan Rogue isn't functioning, the first thing you should do is check the battery in the key fob. Your vehicle needs to either be unlocked or the key fob battery must be charged for it to recognize when you approach the vehicle. If this doesn't resolve the issue, the problem might lie with the sensor. This sensor is situated beneath the rear bumper and is often susceptible to becoming dirty and covered with debris. If this occurs, it may fail to detect when your foot is there to open the tailgate. In such a situation, try cleaning the sensor to restore its functionality.
If the sensor on your Nissan Rogue's foot-activated liftgate is malfunctioning, it typically causes the liftgate not to work.
I had trouble with the back hatch on my 2019 Rogue. Neither kicking it nor using the key fob button was effective. Pressing the liftgate or dash button only made it open a little then close. It suddenly worked after I took it through a car wash. With the winter being damp, the car was quite dirty from the road. A week later, it malfunctioned again, but another car wash fixed it. I'll attempt to thoroughly clean it at home with a hose.
