Your MINI Cooper key fob includes a VL2020 rechargeable battery that can be purchased online. Even though these batteries are rechargeable and get charged when you insert the fob into its slot, the battery may eventually wear out. If this occurs, it could prevent you from starting the engine, so it's recommended to replace the battery before it fails. To replace the battery, you will only need a new battery and a small flathead screwdriver. Begin by separating the two halves of the fob starting from the end opposite the key ring slot. Once you have the fob in two pieces, remove the inner battery cover and slide out the old battery to replace it with the new one.
If your MINI Cooper won't start with the key fob, first check that the fob battery isn't dead and verify the key programming.
