The wrench light on a Ford F-250 indicates a powertrain issue. Cooling should be refreshed every 60,000 miles, while the air filter ought to be swapped out every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. Spark plugs should be changed every 100,000 miles, unless they are copper, in which case they should be replaced every 30,000 miles. Engine troubles can arise including loose gaskets that need tightening, spark plugs popping off leading to engine problems, oil leaks that must be promptly fixed, and potential excessive oil consumption necessitating earlier oil changes. An alarming concern is engine overheating, which poses a risk of fires and even the vehicle exploding.
On my 2010 Ford F-250 diesel 4x4 with a turbo, I have an issue where a wrench symbol appeared on the dashboard and the turbo pressure gauge is not functioning correctly.
The wrench light means that a problem with the engine or transmission has been detected in the vehicle.
The engine light turned on because of a green wrench symbol.
The previous answers you received are accurate. Typically, when this issue occurs, the vehicle will not function at its best performance and will be limited until the problem is fixed.
If you see the wrench light turn on and the turbo gauge is not functioning, it may indicate a leak in the hose connected to the cold intake of the turbo. The hose is a black 3-inch one located on top of the engine, connected to a metal pipe that runs beneath the engine. A common issue with F250 trucks is a crack in this top plastic piece near the turbo.
