You recently purchased a Mercedes luxury car and are curious about the significance of the S designation. In a Mercedes with the S designation, it denotes Sport mode. The Sport version is designed to have your vehicle start in first gear and then shift gears as you reach high RPMs. In contrast, non-Sport editions will start in second gear and D1, known as "comfort mode". The Sport model offers increased power, speed, and precision during acceleration and gear shifts.

The "s" on the Mercedes indicates it's in sport mode, while the "w" signifies it's in winter mode.
