The 2009 Chevrolet Colorado has different oil capacities for its engines: the 2.9L inline-4 takes 5 quarts, the 3.7L 5-cylinder takes 6 quarts, and the 5.3L V8 takes 6 quarts as well. All these engines require 5W-30 oil. To start an oil change, ensure the car has been idle for a couple of hours to let the oil cool down. Locate the oil pan and drain plug, position a bucket underneath, and remove the plug to allow the oil to drain. Wait until it stops dripping, which could take about an hour. Once done, reattach the drain plug and then fill the oil pan using a funnel. Be careful not to overfill, as this can cause leaks and oil burn-off. After filling, seal the port, clean up any spills, and you're all set.
In 2009, the Chevy Colorado needs 5 quarts of oil for the 2.9L inline-4 engine and 6 quarts for both the 3.7L 5-cylinder and the 5.3L V8. For all engine types, whether it's the 2.9L, 3.7L, or 5.3L, you can use either 0W-30 when it's below -20 F, or 5W-30 when it's above that temperature.
