It's recommended to use a synthetic blend with seal conditioners to prevent leaks in the future, even though it may not be a current issue with your new vehicle. Following GM's guidelines, use A5W-30 viscosity, unless you frequently experience temperatures below -20 degrees, then switch to 0W-30. When tightening the oil drain plug yourself, don't exceed 18 pound-feet of torque.
