The top issue reported for the 2003 Hyundai XG350 is a faulty exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, leading to an erratic engine idle. Repairing this can typically cost between $180 and $220. Another common problem involves the fuel tank, where a faulty line causes the pump to shut off prematurely during refueling, sometimes even indicating a full tank after minimal fuel has been added. Complaints about poor shifting performance are also frequent. While changing the transmission fluid may solve some cases, updating the transmission control module with the latest software is needed in others. Additionally, concerns have arisen regarding the suspension, seat belts, electrical system, and paint job.

I've been the proud owner of a 2003 XG350i since 2008, and it currently has 125,000 miles on it. The engine has been reliable overall, but there have been some issues like the EGR valve problem. I replaced the timing belt at 120,000 miles, which was a challenging task. The power steering hoses have been leaking for years, and replacing them was a nightmare. The transmission has always had strange shifting behavior, going from firm to slipping into the next gear. Now at 125,000 miles, there are metal bits collecting on the vehicle output sensor of the transmission, causing the speedometer to read zero at all speeds. There is also a heavy clunking feeling during turns, which makes me suspect there are metal parts in the spider gears of the differential. I fear the transmission might fail suddenly. There have also been issues with the gas filler and doors locking unexpectedly due to faulty switches. The brake rotors warped at 100,000 miles. Despite these challenges, the 2003 XG350i is a luxurious car with all the latest features for its time. However, it doesn't offer great gas mileage, running at around 2300 to 2500 RPM at 70 MPH for about 20 miles per gallon. The body has held up well considering it's been in the Iowa rust belt. I now drive it cautiously, anticipating each shift. I will be sad to say goodbye to this car when the transmission finally gives out.
