If your fuel gauge is not functioning, you may need to reset it. One way to do this is by pressing and holding the trip button on your odometer while turning off the vehicle. After turning on your Ford Ranger again, make sure it indicates it's in trip mode. If the gauge is still not working, check the fuse for the fuel sensor. It's possible that older analog gauges may be defective, while digital ones are more reliable. Another common issue drivers face is compromised engine wiring, which can also affect the fuel level tracking.
To recalibrate the fuel gauge in your Ford Ranger, first press the ODO/TRIP button and switch off the vehicle. Keep holding the button, turn the vehicle back on, and ensure that it displays in ODO/TRIP mode. Next, switch off the vehicle again. Wait for 10 minutes, then switch it back on and off. This should reset the gauge. If this method doesn't work, it might be due to a lack of power to the gauge or faulty wiring connections.
Does the vehicle need to be operational?
I just removed and then reconnected the battery, and it worked perfectly.
