For all standard 2017 Subaru Impreza models except the WRx and WRX STi, which are separate, the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine requires 4.6 quarts of SAE 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. In a pinch, SAE 5W-20 or SAE 5W-30 can be used, but it's not advisable in the long run. The viscosity of the oil at different temperatures is indicated by the numbers, with the first number being for startup and the second for operating temperature. Higher numbers mean thicker oil, which can create friction and lead to premature engine wear. It's advisable to invest a bit more in a thinner oil if recommended for better long-term engine health.
