The older Chevy Malibu uses GM Power Steering Fluid if it has a hydraulic power steering pump. If your Malibu has this feature, you can find the reservoir near the firewall on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Checking the fluid is not something you need to do regularly unless you notice a leak or encounter steering problems. When it's time to check the fluid level, start by cleaning the top of the cap and the surrounding area to prevent dirt from entering the tank. Afterward, unscrew the cap and wipe the dipstick. Reinsert it and ensure that the level falls within the MIN and MAX lines. On the contrary, latest models of the Malibu are equipped with electric power steering, and they do not require any power steering fluid or routine maintenance.
