The Chevy Impala requires DEXRON-Vi Automatic Transmission Fluid. Checking the fluid level is unnecessary unless there is a suspected leak. These days, car manufacturers have made it difficult for owners to check and replace the transmission fluid, often requiring a visit to the dealer or repair shop. Unlike most cars, the Impala does not come with a traditional transmission dipstick. To access the drain and fill plugs, the car must be level and lifted. The transmission can hold approximately 6.3 quarts of fluid and is considered full when the fluid reaches the bottom of the fill plug threads. It is recommended to change the fluid every 30,000 to 50,000 miles or every five years.
