The 2013 Mercedes SL550 has a reputation for being a dependable car with no major issues, but there have been reports of some minor concerns to the NHTSA. Occasionally, the vehicle's transponder may provide inaccurate location readings, potentially causing delays for emergency responders after an accident. The electric power steering system is fitted with control pins that can come loose, leading to a loss of steering assistance. If these pins disconnect, there is a risk of increased resistance that could cause an engine fire, even when the car is parked and the ignition is off. Furthermore, the onboard computer system doesn't recognize when a light passenger is seated in the front, resulting in the airbag not deploying in a crash situation where it should, putting the passenger at risk of serious injury.
There are no particular problems reported with the 2013 Mercedes SL550 model, but considering the age of the car, it's probable that issues with the engine or transmission may arise. Rust and metal damage could have developed over time. It is advisable to inspect the brake lines and other fluid lines for signs of dry rot and leaks. Replacement of brake pads will probably be necessary, and the condition of tires should be assessed for aging and deterioration. Check the oil system, including the oil pump, for signs of deterioration on the lines and cracks in the pan. Dead or damaged wires and blown fuses could cause electrical issues throughout the vehicle.
