The recommended brake fluid for a 2008 Dodge Dakota is dot 3. Changing the brake fluid can be a straightforward process, depending on whether you just need to top it up or if you have to bleed the brakes. If you only need to add more fluid, locate the intake port under the hood, fill the container between the MIN and FULL lines, then secure the cap. If bleeding the brakes is necessary, lift the car, remove the tires, and locate the bleeder valve on each wheel. Connect a piece of tubing to the valve, open it, and press the brake pedal slowly to drain the fluid into a bucket. Work through each wheel until no more fluid comes out, then refill the brakes before putting the tires back on.
