The 2003 Jetta is available in two versions with different oil capacities. The first has a 2.0L inline-4 engine that can hold up to 4.5 quarts of motor oil. The second version is slightly larger with a 2.8 L V6 engine that can hold a maximum of 6 quarts of motor oil. Volkswagen recommends both non-synthetic and synthetic oils for their vehicles. For both models, a 5w40 viscosity is the preferred option when using non-synthetic oil. Alternatively, a standard 5w30 fully synthetic oil is a good choice, especially if the car's thermal performance is not ideal. Volkswagen advises changing the oil every 3500 to 5000 miles.

The 2003 Volkswagen Jetta's base model with a 1.8L inline-4 engine and the optional 1.9L inline-4 diesel engine both require 4.8 quarts of oil. For the Jetta's two variations of the 2.0L inline-4 engine (engine code AVH V or AZG K), 4.4 quarts of oil are needed. If you have the 2.8L V6 engine in your 2003 Jetta, it will require 6.1 quarts of oil. Volkswagen recommends using 5W40 non-synthetic oil or 5W30 synthetic oil for all engine choices in the 2003 Jetta.
