All 2005 Toyota Prius models have the same 1.5L 4-cylinder engine with the code 1NZ-FXE. This engine needs 3.9 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. When it's very cold outside, it's better to use SAE 0W-30. If you don't have either, you could use SAE 5W-40 as a temporary solution, but it's not advised. Using a heavier oil creates more friction, which can lead to engine wear and potential failure over time. It's best to stick with the manufacturer's recommended oil of the lightest weight, even if it costs a little more.
