For optimal performance, Mazda suggests using a full synthetic motor oil with a viscosity grade of 0w-20. They also advise purchasing oils from trusted brands like Castrol or Motorcraft. That said, both semi-synthetic and conventional oils are also good choices. Compared to full synthetic oils, these alternatives need more frequent changes and provide less benefit to the engine and vehicle overall. If you opt for full synthetic oil, it's recommended to change it every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Conventional oil should be changed around every 5,000 miles, while semi-synthetic oils can go for about 7,000 to 8,000 miles before needing replacement.
