The 2017 Dodge Journey originally came with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine, but you had the option to upgrade to a bigger 3.5L V6 engine. Both engines require synthetic 5W-20 oil. The standard engine holds 4.5 US quarts of oil, while the V6 holds 5.9 US quarts. To prevent permanent engine damage, the oil should be changed every 7,500 miles. The oil drain plug has a 16mm head size and needs to be loosened with 22 lbs-ft of torque.

The Journey offers two engine options: a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder. When it comes to changing the oil in your car, you must identify which engine you have because this determines the type of oil needed. The 6 cylinder engine requires 10W-30 oil, while the 4 cylinder engine requires 5W-20 oil. Additionally, the amount of oil needed differs for each engine type; the 6 cylinder engine requires 5.5 quarts, whereas the 4 cylinder engine only needs 4.5 quarts.
