The type of oil required for your 2012 Dodge Journey depends on the engine it has. If your vehicle is equipped with the standard 2.4L engine, you should use 5W-20 synthetic blend oil. For models with the upgraded 3.6L V6 engine, 5W-30 synthetic blend oil is recommended. The standard engine requires 4.5 US quarts of oil, including the filter, while the V6 engine needs 5.9 US quarts. The oil drain plug has a 16mm head size and needs 20 lbs-ft of torque to be removed.
For the 2012 Dodge Journey, the engine oil you should use depends on the trim level. The AVP, SE, and SXT models with a 4-cylinder engine should use 5W-20 viscosity oil that meets Chrysler MS-6395 standards, but a 0W-20 viscosity oil is also acceptable. On the other hand, the Crew, R/T, and SXT models with a 6-cylinder engine require 5W-30 viscosity oil that meets Chrysler MS-6395 specifications.
