If you own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, you have one of two engine options. Some models come with a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, while others feature a 2.4L 4-cylinder. The 2.0T engine needs 4.9 quarts of SAE 5W-30 synthetic motor oil, but you can use SAE 5W-40 as an alternative. The 2.4L engine requires 4.8 quarts of SAE 5W-20 synthetic oil, and you can also opt for SAE 5W-30. It's generally not recommended to make these substitutions. Using a thicker oil with a higher viscosity can create friction in the engine, leading to premature wear and eventual failure. It's best to stick to the recommended oil with the lower viscosity, even if it's a bit more expensive – it will pay off in the long run.
