For the 2005 Hyundai Sonata, there are two engine choices: the 2.4 L takes 4.5 quarts of oil, and the 2.7 L V6 requires 4.8 quarts. Both engines recommend using 5W-20 oil, but if you have 5W-30 available, it can be used temporarily until your next oil change. You will also need a new oil filter, like the WIX51334-EA, which is compatible with either engine and costs around $15. The decision to use conventional or synthetic oil is yours, but synthetic is often a better choice and remains quite affordable.
Hyundai suggests using 5W-20 synthetic oil for the 2005 Hyundai Sonata's engine choices: the 2.4L inline-4 and the 2.7L V6. If you can't find 5W-20, it's okay to use 5W-30 as an alternative.
