In 2009, the Nissan Altima requires dexron iv power steering fluid. To begin the process of changing the fluid, locate the container under the hood near the window, which will be a clear plastic container. Using a pump, remove all the fluid from the container. As the fluid level decreases, turn the steering wheel all the way to one side and then to the other to allow the fluid in the wheel to drain into the container. Once the container is empty, refill it to the full line, being careful not to overfill. It may take some time for the steering to become smoother, so test it out by driving for about 20 minutes to ensure the process was successful.
