In the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, the type of transmission fluid required depends on whether you have an automatic or manual transmission. For manual transmissions, use synthetic 75W-90 gear oil, while automatics use ATF-F-TYPE fluid. It's important to check the transmission fluid level at least once a month to ensure it is within the proper range. Insufficient fluid can cause slipping and premature wear of internal components. To check the fluid level, do so when the transmission is at normal operating temperatures. Put the car in neutral and keep the engine running as you pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, and then pull it back out to check that the fluid level falls between the high and low marks.
It is advised to utilize ATF Type F transmission fluid that is not synthetic in a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta.
