While many Mitsubishi models with automatic transmissions are considered reliable, the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer was involved in a recall due to issues with its CVT transmission. Affected vehicles experienced delayed acceleration and a loss of power when the driver pressed the gas pedal, which was attributed to faulty software programming in the transmission control module (TCM). Over 80,000 vehicles, including the 2016 Outlander and 2015-2016 Outlander Sport, were recalled by Mitsubishi. The remedy for this issue involves reprogramming the TCM at a local dealership, a process covered by the manufacturer that typically takes a little over an hour to complete. To determine if your Lancer is eligible for this repair, visit the nearest dealer with your vehicle's VIN number.
In the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer with a CVT, issues such as slipping, grinding, and difficulty shifting can indicate transmission problems.
