In a 2014 Chevy Malibu, the Bank 1 sensor 1 is located on the exhaust piping between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. This sensor, which is larger and screwed into a bung on the exhaust piping, has a big wire connected to it. The purpose of these sensors in the exhaust system is to monitor the exhaust gases to ensure they are within the expected range. This data helps the ECU adjust the air-to-fuel mixture for proper ratios. If this sensor is failing, you will need to replace it to avoid triggering the check engine light on your dashboard. You may also notice that your car is running more roughly.
