On your 2000 Dodge Dakota, the blend door actuator can be found behind the decorative dashboard panel on the passenger side, beneath the glove box. A simple way to check if it is malfunctioning is by removing the panel and observing the actuator while changing the temperature settings to see if the gears are working properly. Replacing it is relatively uncomplicated: Disconnect the battery, take out the instrument panel, unscrew the three screws securing the actuator to the top of the HVAC housing, and then disconnect the wires from the wiring harness; the actuator should then come out easily. To install the new one, just reverse the steps. If you opt to have someone else do the job, expect to pay around $300 for labor, plus the cost of the actuator itself, which can range from $250 to $350 depending on where you purchase it.
