As an American, if you purchase a Volkswagen Jetta directly from the manufacturer, it won't come with a block heater. However, you can have one installed aftermarket, sometimes by a dealer trying to sweeten the deal for a potential buyer. If you already have a block heater, look for the distinctive coiled cord near the grille of the car. Although block heaters can assist with cold starts, the cost of installation can be quite high and may not be worth it in the long term. While they can be beneficial, the Jetta is capable of starting in cold weather on its own. I recommend saving your money and spending it on other investments instead.

The Jetta's block heater plug is located under the driver's side headlight. You'll need a specific cord to connect to the plug, which costs around $175. It's necessary to have a block heater for extremely cold temperatures.

The cord for the block heater on the VW Jetta dangles from the front grill of the car, but can also be spotted right inside the hood.
