The 2012 Chevrolet Impala comes equipped with two camshaft sensors in its 3.6L V6 engine located on the left side of the engine bay. Accessing them requires removing the oil filter cap and black cover from the top of the engine. Fortunately, reaching these sensors is relatively straightforward, and the process of replacing them typically takes just a few hours, including setup and tear down. One sensor is situated closer to the front of the vehicle, while the other is located near the back of the engine bay. Both sensors tend to fail at similar rates, so it's essential to determine whether to replace Bank 1 or Bank 2. These sensors can be purchased online for around $35 new or as little as $10 remanufactured.

It's both amusing and disheartening that, despite all my online research, there isn't clear information on which camshaft is on the exhaust side (probably the outer ones, but no one explicitly confirms) or the proper way to remove those stubborn S clips without damaging them. Additionally, there isn't much guidance on the best penetrating fluid that is safe for rubber and plastic and non-conductive—perhaps WD40 silicone could be a suitable option. It's ironic yet frustrating that these details seem to be overlooked by many online sources.
