The 2006 VW Passat's camshaft position sensor is located at the rear of the engine beneath the valve cover and close to the timing cover. Its main function is to track the camshaft's position in the engine's rotation. This sensor informs the ECU when to introduce air, fuel, and spark for combustion. A malfunctioning sensor can cause the engine to run roughly and struggle with idling. Typically, a code stored in the ECU triggers the check engine light on the dashboard as an alert for inspection.
The camshaft position sensor for a 2006 VW Passat is positioned toward the bottom of the left-hand side of the engine bay, just beneath the engine cover when you peer inside.
