The 2008 Chevy Uplander's camshaft position sensor (CMP) is located near the relays on the crankshaft of the engine. Positioned at or below the valve cover of the cylinder head line on the belt side, the CMP is composed of a magnet and an iron core encased in copper wire and fixed on the cylinder head. This information is then relayed to the powertrain control module to assist in determining the necessary fuel injection and ignition control system settings for combustion and power. If you suspect a faulty CMP, watch out for signs such as the engine light illuminating, difficulty starting or failure to start the vehicle, unusual rattling noises from the engine, and jerky movement or surging when accelerating.
The camshaft position sensor for the 2008 Chevy Uplander can be found at the back of the engine block towards the top.
