You can locate the engine coolant temperature sensor on a 2001 Toyota Celica underneath the oil pressure switch, positioned behind the coolant pipe and air intake pipe. The first indication that this sensor is failing is often the check engine light turning on, accompanied by the engine starting to overheat. You may also notice black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. To replace the sensor, you can purchase the Duralast Coolant Temperature Sensor part SU13544 for about $14 at Autozone. Simply disconnect the wiring harness and unscrew the old sensor, a task that can easily be done by a DIY enthusiast.
The temperature sensor for the 200 Toyota Celica can be found on the upper coolant line.
