You'll want to start your search near the crankshaft for the crankshaft position sensor. On the 2004 Audi S4, you'll find it positioned between the transmission and the engine block. Replacing it can be tricky due to its location, but it's doable without professional help. You'll need a 10mm wrench for the job, and removing the coolant reservoir will provide better access. Once you can reach the bolt and wiring harness with your wrench, replacing the sensor is a relatively straightforward task, although working in tight spaces may be a challenge. Since visibility is limited, rely on your sense of touch to guide you through the process.
