On most vehicles, it's generally a safe bet that you'll find the crankshaft position sensor located close to the crankshaft. For the 2001 Lexus IS300, start by locating the water pump on the passenger side. The crankshaft position sensor is situated in front of this, to the left of the alternator. If you spot the serpentine belt, you're in the right spot. The most common reason to work on this area is if you're receiving fault code P0335 (or P0345), signaling an issue with the CPS. Fortunately, replacing it is not overly complicated and the part is reasonably priced, ranging from $80 to $170 depending on the brand and your IS300's setup. Best of luck!
The crankshaft position sensor on a 2001 Lexus RX 300 can be found on the right side of the engine, next to the alternator.
