The ECM in a 2006 Nissan Altima is located on the passenger side beneath the instrument panel glove box. It plays a crucial role in adjusting engine performance by managing the fuel-to-air ratio and engine timing. Additionally, it communicates important information with the PCM and TCM, which oversee various systems like shifting, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. During startup, the engine is particularly sensitive to the fuel-to-air ratio set by the ECM. If you experience startup issues such as repeated attempts to get the engine going, it may indicate a problem with the engine, potentially stemming from the ECM.
