The EVAP canister in a 2013 Ford Edge is positioned near the rear driver side tire under the vehicle. Its function is to store gasoline vapors to prevent their release into the air. The computer triggers the purge valve to eliminate these fumes by burning them in the engine. If the canister gets clogged from gasoline fluid entering it, a possible result of overfilling the tank while the engine is running, the charcoal inside may solidify and fail to capture vapors. In such a scenario, the check engine light will come on, and gas emissions will be released outdoors.
