The EVAP vent solenoid in a 2004 Chevy Malibu is located on top of the fuel tank underneath the car. It has tubes connected to it and is positioned above the top of the tank. This component plays a key role in opening and closing the EVAP vent to release pressure from the fuel system as vapors accumulate. The vapors pass through a carbon filter in the EVAP filter housing before being released through the solenoid. If the solenoid is stuck in an open or closed position, you may see the check engine light illuminate on the dashboard, indicating either an EVAP leak or excessive pressure in the vacuum system.
What does it appear to be?
