In the Mazda2, the fuel pump is situated inside the gas tank, which means the gas tank needs to be taken out of the vehicle to access the pump through the top panel. Before attempting to remove the fuel pump, it is important to start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. By disconnecting the negative battery terminal, you are stopping the electrical flow through the vehicle's body, reducing the risk of potential fire-causing arcs while working on the fuel system. After disconnecting the battery, allow a few minutes for the electricity to dissipate. If the gas tank is more than half full, it is advised to drain it first to lessen the weight before attempting to lower it.
The Mazda 2's fuel pump is housed in the gas tank situated on the rear left side of the car.
