The idle air control valve in the 2005 Subaru Forester is located above the throttle body, situated between the air box and distributor. To remove it, you only need a flat blade screwdriver. Start by disconnecting the electrical connection on the right side, pressing the tab to pull it out. Next, use the screwdriver to turn the screws counterclockwise to loosen them; there is one on each side of the valve. Once the screws are removed, pull the valve to the right to slide it out. Before installing the new valve, inspect the port where it fits to ensure it is clean. If needed, use a paper towel on your finger to wipe it out.
