In a 2003 Honda Civic, the mass airflow sensor is located in the air duct between the air filter and the throttle body. Its main function is to measure the volume of air entering the engine. If the sensor becomes contaminated or malfunctions, it won't be able to accurately measure the airflow, leading to issues with fuel injection calculations by the engine computer. This can result in multiple performance issues such as difficulty starting, stalling, loss of power, and sluggish acceleration. Additionally, a faulty mass airflow sensor may trigger the Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light. Furthermore, a problem with the airflow sensor could impact the shifting pattern of an automatic transmission.
In a 2003 Honda Civic, you can find the mass air flow sensor on the left side towards the back of the engine compartment. It's located in the intake air duct, on the right side of the air cleaner.
