The neutral safety switch for the 2003 GMC Envoy is situated on the side of the transmission where the shifter cable connects. If the switch malfunctions, you may notice that the engine does not start when in the park position, but will start when in neutral. Driving in this condition can cause serious damage to your engine. It is recommended to have the switch repaired, which typically costs around $400, a much more affordable option compared to dealing with a completely blown engine. In case you must continue driving in this state, keep to low gears and avoid high speeds, limiting your movement to necessary trips to a mechanic or other essential locations.

I have a 2003 Envoy XL that suddenly shifted into neutral while I was driving and kept showing that it was in drive. I'm unable to change into any other gears except for 'Park'. After running diagnostic codes, the issue seems to be related to that part. The transmission fluid level and color appear fine and there are no signs of burning. I hadn't experienced any slipping problems before this incident. Do you think this could be causing the issue I'm facing?
The neutral safety switch for the 2003 GMC Envoy can be found on the transmission's side where the shifter cable is linked.
