In the 2019 GMC Terrain, the oil filter is situated on the left side of the engine under a round plastic cap with a large nut. This filter is housed inside the filter housing and its function is to cleanse the oil before it flows into the engine from the oil pan and pickup tube. It is important to replace the oil filter each time you perform an oil change. Neglecting to change the filter can result in the new oil picking up contaminants from the old oil and circulating them through the engine. A new filter will also help prevent the oil from getting dirty from an old and worn-out filter.
