In a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, the oil filter is located in the front left passenger side of the engine compartment. The filter is enclosed within a housing that requires removing the cap before lifting out the paper filter. This style of oil filter is typical in German vehicles, contrasting with the standard metal screw-on filter commonly seen in American and Japanese cars. German vehicles filter the oil at a different stage in the system, making it potentially more efficient. Additionally, changing the paper filter from the housing is easier compared to removing a filter from the bottom of the vehicle.
The oil filter in the 2018 VW Tiguan is situated on the right side of the engine, underneath the cover panel.
