The 2014 BMW 328I utilizes a hydraulic pump to move lubricants around power steering components in specific types of engines. Different BMW models and years may instead have an electronic power steering (EPS) system. If present, the reservoir for the hydraulic system can be located on the driver's side of the engine bay beside the engine, identified by a black cylindrical container with markings on the cap. BMW cars require CHF 11 ATF fluid to lubricate the power steering. Failure to maintain proper fluid levels could lead to damage to the pump and hydraulic components, resulting in audible whining or high-pitched noises when steering.
The power steering pump of the 2014 BMW 328i is located at the front of the engine, near the alternator and air conditioning compressor. The fluid is contained within the unit along with the pump.
