The purge valve in a 2007 Chevy Cobalt is situated on top of the EVAP canister near the fuel tank, directly above and to the right of the rear muffler on the exhaust. Its main function is to release excess pressure from the fuel system. High pressure from vapors in the lines can lead to engine performance issues. If there's an issue with the EVAP purge valve, your car's check engine light will likely come on, signaling a problem with the EVAP system. You may also notice decreased engine performance.
