On a 2008 GMC Sierra, you can locate the purge valve next to the EVAP canister positioned on the top of the fuel tank. This valve is responsible for releasing excess pressure from the fuel system to maintain proper functionality. If the purge valve becomes stuck in either the open or closed position, it can trigger the check engine light on the dashboard due to the accumulation of fumes that can lead to an EVAP sensor error. An open purge valve may result in a noticeable significant EVAP leak. If you observe issues with your vehicle running roughly, one of the initial components to inspect should be the purge valve to ensure the fuse and wiring are intact.
In the 2008 GMC Sierra, the purge valve is located in the hose connecting the fuel vapor tank and the intake manifold.
