The thermostat in a 2006 Dodge Stratus is typically located near the radiator hose within its housing, positioned beside the engine. In the 4-cylinder Stratus, it is usually situated on the top of the intake manifold, while in the 6-cylinder model, it is positioned on the lower part of the engine block under the hood. To access the thermostat, it may be necessary to remove drive belts and hoses from its housing. Warning signs of a failing thermostat include engine overheating, inconsistent temperature readings on gauges, and coolant leaks. The housing may crack, and the thermostat can become either stuck open or closed. When the vehicle is turned off and cool, the thermostat should stay closed. Once the engine reaches operating temperatures, the thermostat should open to enable the flow of coolant through the radiator, engine, and back again.
