In a 2008 Honda Accord, the thermostat is situated on the right side of the alternator, beneath the headers. Encased in a plastic unit with a rubber coolant hose at one end and bolted to the engine block at the other, the thermostat plays a crucial role in regulating the coolant flow to prevent overheating. It operates using a cylinder, typically containing wax, that expands with heat to gradually open a valve for increased fluid circulation. A spring is employed to shut off the valve. Contemporary thermostats include a built-in bypass valve for added engine protection in case of malfunction.
It's located underneath the intake manifold next to the alternator.
