The 2016 Nissan Altima has a transmission fluid pressure sensor located on the side of the transmission housing. This sensor is important because it gathers data on the pressure inside the transmission case, affecting how smoothly the vehicle shifts gears. Its main job is to communicate this pressure information to the ECM, which controls the transmission. If the sensor is faulty and doesn't send the right data to the ECM, the transmission could get stuck in a limited gear mode, like third or fourth gear.
