The 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander's starter is located at the front of the engine, a little to the right of the center. Positioned just below the exhaust manifold, it is safeguarded by a metal shield from the heat. To replace it, begin by removing the negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench and setting it aside. Then, disconnect and move the air duct out of the way. Afterward, take off the heat shield by unscrewing two 8mm bolts and one 10mm bolt, and gently pull it out from the air duct area. Use a 12mm socket to detach the battery cable from the starter and unclip the electrical connector. Remove the two starter bolts, sized at 17mm each, situated near the transmission - one at the top and the other below. Due to the confined space, you may need to wiggle the starter to maneuver it out.
