For the 2014 GMC Terrain, it is recommended to use 5W-30 Synthetic oil for both the 2.4 L 4Cylinder and the 3.6 L V6 engine models. The Terrain iS5 quarts with a filter for the 2.4 L 4Cylinder and 6 quarts with a filter for the 3.6 L V6 engine. The drain plug torque for both engines is 18 ft/lbs. The primary role of oil is to maintain engine cleanliness. It is advised to perform an oil and filter change every 7,500 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first. The oil change process typically takes 5 to 15 minutes and requires tools like a drain pan, rags, ratchet, socket, and socket extensions.
A 5W-30 viscosity oil has the flexibility to be used with either conventional or synthetic options.
GMC suggests using Dexos SAE 5W-30 oil for the 2014 Terrain. If the temperature falls below 29°C/20°F, you can switch to an SAE 0W-30 to aid in cold starting.
