I recently purchased a vehicle from Capitol Auto of Smithfield and it was a very pleasant experience. The owner and employees made the buying process as easy and hassle free as possible. Great price and even better service from this dealership.

One and a half years ago, I bought my car from Capitol Auto of Smithfield. Upon purchase, I was given two sets of keys to my car. I kept one as a spare, and one to actively use. Recently, my car's battery died, and as a result I could not open my vehicle using the key fob. I attempted to use the manual key attached to the key fob, and the key would not fit the door, and as a result I had to pay $120 to have my car unlocked by a locksmith. Upon realizing the key I had received from the dealership did not work, I retrieved my spare key and drove to the dealership in an effort to fix the problem. I entered the dealership, and let the owner know the manual key I kept on me would not work, and as a result, I had to have my car opened as outlined above. I asked if he would be willing to replace the keys I had received that were incorrect, as well as reimburse me for the costs incurred due to his mistake. We went outside, he tried the manual key attached to my *spare* set of keys, and we discovered that it worked properly. I did not know this, as it was not the key I kept on me at all times. However, I demonstrated that the key that did not work when I was unable to enter my car still did not work, and asked that he only replace the key that did not work properly. He refused to do so, citing that it was not his responsibility and that the fact that he gave me a spare at all was to be considered "a courtesy." It seems to me regardless of when a mistake is found, even if it were not to incur direct financial consequences, that the person responsible for said mistake would work to make sure that it was corrected to the best of their ability. Today it was demonstrated to me that the owner of this establishment does not see the same way as me, and made it incredibly clear that once he got his money out of me, that I had nothing more to give him, and even though this mistake ended up costing me a not inconsequential amount of money, that it clearly meant nothing to him, and so long as he had done the bare minimum to uphold his end of the bargain, that no more consideration should be given to the customer. I find it appalling that I have to bear the financial consequences for this dealership's mistake, as well as being told that being given the incorrect spare key was supposed to be a "courtesy." I'd like to know how I'm supposed to be thankful for this "courtesy," when it's cost me $120, not including the cost of replacing the key. In addition, after leaving the dealership after this exchange, I learned that not only was the hardware key incorrect in my main key fob, but the whole spare fob did not work with my vehicle, a problem that I verified to not be a result of a dead fob battery. My "courtesy" that I'm supposed to be so thankful for was someone else's whole car key. In the future, I will specifically recommend AGAINST this dealership when speaking to friends, family, and coworkers due to this experience. I would have understood, and not been nearly as upset if the owner had accepted his mistake and let me know there was nothing he could do about it for whatever reason. However, he doubled down on his mistake not being his responsibility, and instead decided to make it seem as though I should accept his mistake as a "courtesy," when it has already cost me $120. I regret recommending this dealership to the people I have, and will be doing the exact opposite in the future. If I had known I had this to look forward to, I would not have bought my vehicle here in the first place. The message sent was very clear, once their buck is made, don't come back unless you're paying. Do not contact me. I will not be taking down this review.

I only give this place 5 stars because I can’t give more!!!! I drove by this place for about a month saying I was going to get my car from here. Just by driving by the cars look like they’re in great quality, and the whole atmosphere is very clean and neat! So finally I went in and it’s Brian to see my options. I went in unsure if I was going to leave with something as my credit score wasn’t too great. But Brian walked me through step by step and helped me and made me feel as if it’s okay to be in some situations sometimes, you can still get help! I explained my situation, told him what price range I wanted to stay in with buying and monthly payments and he was able to help me with my recommendations. He was so friendly, so informative, and just sooo very helpful! I came in stressed and unsure and I left fulfilled and excited! This places exceeded all my expectations! It is a wonderful place to make your car purchases. I 10/10 recommend!!!! YOU NEED TO GO SEE BRIAN!
